The red lightning is a symbol of the women's strike in Poland. In October 2020 the Top Court in Poland had ruled that abortions in case of foetal defects are unconstitutional. Since the Tribunal's ruling, hundreds of thousands of people have been protesting in Poland and around the world. The protests are the largest of the kind since the fall of communism.
ABORTION BAN
Poland's abortion laws were already one of the strictest in Europe, and the new ruling means almost a total ban. It affects 96% of abortions that used to take place in Poland.
In practice, it means that even a woman who finds out that her baby will die in agony shortly after being born, still has to birth the child. Let's face it- that's sentencing women for torture.
This ruling, of course, will not stop all polish women from having abortions. Women from bigger cities who have enough money will go have abortions abroad. But many women from small villages in a dire economic situation will have no other option but to go through the unwanted pregnancy.
THE TRIBUNAL CONTROVERSY
The Polish Constitutional Tribunal, responsible for the ruling about abortion laws, is supposed to be impartial from any political influences. However, since 2016 it has been staffed by unlawfully appointed loyalists of the ruling party Law and Justice (PiS). The judgement has been made by the order of the ruling party.
WHAT ELSE DOES PiS DO?
They spread hatred towards the LGBTQ community, aiming to make them the number one enemy of Polish family values.
They control state media and alter the news in their favour, resulting in the government propaganda TV, radio and newspapers, which serve as a source of information for millions of Poles.
They control the judicial system, in the effect of which the government is now above the law and Poland slowly ceases to be a democratic country.

It really sickens me to witness what is happening in my motherland. I cannot believe that these type of things still take place in the 21st century European country.
